India to give export incentives to labour-intensive sectors

New Delhi, August 24 (ANI): India will offer export incentives to some labour-intensive sectors, said Trade Minister Anand Sharma on Monday, while announcing the supplement Foreign Trade Policy in India's capital New Delhi. Sharma added that the additional incentives would cost the government over Rs 10 billion. He further said that due to the uncertain global markets, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has obtained the extension of Duty Entitlement Pass Book (DEPB) till June 30, 2011. Under this scheme, the government reimburses duties on imported inputs used in exports.

New Delhi, Mar 30(ANI): Hit hard by the rising steel prices, along with high interest rates and the depreciating dollar, auto component manufacturers have sought the government’s help to take fiscal steps to check the spiralling input costs. The Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India or ACMA has said that profitability of auto component makers have been hit hard in the quarter ended in December 2007, with many of them registering negative growth.

Assam, Jan 7 (ANI): The orchard owners of Hakomari village in West Kamrup District of Assam have reaped a bumper harvest of oranges. Under the Technology Mission of the Assam Government’s Agriculture Department, the growers and orchard owners were given extensive training in modern scientific methods of nurturing orange trees. Consequently, the quality and quantity from each tree has been encouraging with farmers being able to get around 800 to 1000 oranges from a single tree.

Guwahati, August 26 (ANI): A US-based NRI Vavani Sharma has adopted a rhino named 'Pori' at a zoo in Assam and has made an advance payment of 100,000 rupees. This adoption allows him to take care of the six-year-old female rhino for the next one year. The Assam government started an adoption programme way back in 2005 to promote protection of the endangered species and also to reduce the Forest Department's financial burden in managing the zoos.

Five killed as train derails near Jaipur

Rajasthan, November 14 (ANI): At least five people were killed and 20 injured, when a Delhi-bound Mandor Express derailed in Bassi town near Jaipur. The accident occurred around 1.30 am on Saturday between Jhar and Jathwara stations when five AC, seven sleeper and three general coaches got derailed. The train was travelling from Jodhpur to national capital New Delhi. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital by Government Railway Protection (GRP) personnel.
