Krishna on Wednesday said Indian government is doing all it can to free all the seventy nine Indian sailors taken hostage by Somali pirates seven months ago on board the Egyptian cargo ship, as the deadline to execute eight of them ended today. Krishna made these remarks while responding to Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, who had raised the issue in the Parliament.

Surat Marathon attracts 20,000 participants

Surat, January 23 (ANI): Over 20,000 participants took part in Surat marathon organised on Sunday. The marathon, organised by Municipal Corporation, began from the Parle point area and ended at Dumas, a popular tourist spot in the city and was divided in two categories. The first category included a 4.5 kilometre stretch for males in the age group of 15 to 45 years. The second category included a stretch of 3.5 kilometres for women, children and senior citizens.Meena Vankalvala, a participant who took part in the recently held Mumbai marathon said that she felt good to be running on home turf.

8 dead after cargo plane crashes in Pakistan

Karachi, November 28 (ANI): A plane carrying eight people crashed early on Sunday in a residential area of Karachi, Pakistan's biggest city, setting buildings on fire. Provincial Health Minister Sagheer Ahmed told Reuters three bodies were recovered. The Civil Aviation Authority said the plane went down after taking off from Karachi airport. Spokesman Pervez George said it was a Russian-built cargo aircraft bound for Sudan.

Ranchi, December 23(ANI): Indian cricket team skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Tuesday received the scroll and medal of Padma Shri, the country's fourth highest civilian award at Ranchi. Shiv Basant, Chief Secretary of Jharkhand presented the award to him at a formal event held at the state Secretariat. Dhoni, who was to receive the award from the Indian President Pratibha Devisingh Patil earlier this year, had missed the awards presentation ceremony in New Delhi. The captain faced much criticism for missing the award ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Another Osmania student commits suicide over Telangana

Hyderabad, March 10 (ANI): Another student of Osmania University in Hyderabad committed suicide on Tuesday to press for the creation of separate Telangana state from Andhra Pradesh. M Saikumar, a B Tech second year student, reportedly hanged himself in his hostel room. His fellow student saw him hanging, through a window, and immediately informed police and called an ambulance. Saikumar was declared brought dead in the hospital. Police said that a suicide note purportedly written by him was recovered near the body, which stated that he sacrificed his life for Telangana.

Chhattisgarh, August 11 (ANI): Indian police nabbed four alleged radical ultras in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday. The apprehended youth are suspected to be involved in several cases of murder and instigating violence in the area, police said. Acting on a tip-off, the police nabbed them from a dense forest near Kanker and recovered two guns and Maoist literature. The arrested individuals are suspected to be Maoist sympathisers, who were being indoctrinated and lured to join the rebels.
