Kolkata walkathon for AIDS awareness

Kolkata, December 12 (ANI): With an aim to create mass awareness on eradication of HIV/AIDS and also the stigma related to it, a walkathon was held in Kolkata on Sunday. Prominent citizens, hundreds of social activists and others including school students participated in the event named 'The Great Kolkata Walkathon'. The walkathon covering a distance of 2.5 kilometres was organised by the Kolkata Lions Club and an NGO named the Delegation for Human Rights. Evidently, approximately 2.3 million people suffer from HIV/AIDS in India, 10 per cent of whom live in West Bengal.

DRI officials seize gas worth billions in Chennai

Chennai, December 15 (ANI): Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), functioning under the central Finance Ministry, seized about 65 cylinders of Chloro-difluoromethane gas worth Rs 25 billion at Chennai on Tuesday. The DRI seized 5 containers, which contained 65 cylinders of the gas. Each cylinder weighed 800 Kgs. Additional Director General, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Chennai C. Rajan, said that the importers faked their identity for importing the gas cylinders to India. However R22 gas requires a license to import but they imported them after misdeclaration of items and further tried to clear the items through customs.

Hope for Sarabjit, Lahore blast accused Rattu arrested

Panchkula, December 18 (ANI): Manjit Singh Rattu, who is allegedly involved in the 1990 Lahore bombings in which Sarabjit Singh has been facing the death sentence in Pakistan, was on Friday remanded to two days police custody by a local court in Haryana. Rattu was presented before the judicial courts in Panchkula after being arrested in Chandigarh by the state police on December 16 on charges of cheating. The infamous journalist Rattu, who has a history of fraud activities, said that he has no involvement in the Punjab region bombings for which Singh is facing punishment in Pakistan.

Jat agitation continues, hit trains in Uttar Pradesh

Moradabad, March 07 (ANI): The ongoing agitation by Jats in Uttar Pradesh over reservation in central jobs under the OBC category has forced a severe disruption in railway services between Delhi and Lucknow. At least 12 trains were cancelled and the routes of 30 trains between Lucknow and New Delhi diverted as the agitation intensified on Sunday. They are demanding 27 per cent quota in central jobs under the OBC category. Manjeet Singh, leader of Jat community said that they have been demanding for reservation from past three years but the central government is not considering their demand, which forced them to block railway lines of the region.
