Gwalior, August 17 (ANI): Gates of Tighara dam opened after a span of nine years as heavy rains in Gwalior city had reached the level of 738 feet of the dam. Villagers downstream are now facing problems of commuting. The crops and cattle have also been affected, which has become a matter of concern for them. The capacity of the dam is 740 feet but the gates were opened when the water level notched 738.70 feet.

Anantnag, April 03 (ANI): The rural folks in isolated and far-flung areas of Jammu and Kashmir, such as Bariangan, Shangus, Kokernag Malang Bagh, claim that they have not availed the benefits from the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) that was launched by the central government. The locals lament that despite of having job cards; they got a job only for a few days for which they have not received their wages till now. Locals also blame that although the centre had introduced this scheme for the benefit of the poor, they are now being discriminated by the local authorities.

Siliguri, May 14 (ANI): Tourists heading to Darjeeling for holidays are canceling their plans after Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) announced for a shutdown on Saturday and Sunday, to press their demand for separate state of Gorkhaland. Following the Bandh call, tourists are reluctant to stay in Darjeeling, fearing violence. As a result, tour operators are also a worried lot in the region. Every year Darjeeling and its adjacent regions get packed with about 1.7 million tourists from across the country and abroad during the summer season.

They are fighting the health hazards caused by toxic emissions of the 300 factories running in the vicinity. Due to the emissions people living in the area have incurred corneal diseases and eye allergies. The doctors even claim that out of 80 patients visiting the Clinic 50% are victims of corneal injuries and allergic conjunctivitis caused by air pollution.
