RBI hikes key interest rates
1:15 Mumbai, November 02 (ANI): The Reserve Bank of India raised key short-term lending and borrowing rate by 25 basis points for the sixth time this year on Tuesday to tame inflation. The RBI lifted the repo rates, at which it lends to banks, to 6.25 percent and raised the reverse repo rate, at which it absorbs excess cash, to 5.25 percent. As expected, the apex bank left the cash reserve ratio, the amount that banks keep in cash with the central bank, unchanged at 6 percent to keep enough liquidity in the market. The RBI continued to express worry about inflation, including food price increases that have failed to moderate following a successful summer monsoon, and warned that inflation risks are largely to the upside.
