West Bengal, September 03 (ANI): Two CPM workers were shot dead on Thursday by suspected Maoists in West Midnapore district of West Bengal. This gory incident took place during a 24-hour shutdown call in the region. Police personnel spotted the two bodies at Ektal village around dawn. Maoists claimed responsibility for the attack as evident from the pamphlets and posters found at the spot, which read that the victims were rebels of the CPM's armed Harmad group and they were operating in close co-ordination with the police as informers.

Bareilly,September 03 (ANI): Three traffic constables have been suspended in Uttar Pradesh for assaulting a woman police officer and dragging her over a distance while fleeing in their car after she caught them extorting money, police said on Friday.The three constables, roughed up Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Kalpana Saxena late Thursday evening after she busted them taking bribes from truck drivers near a crossing in Bareilly,some 300 km from Lucknow.Saxena had received information from a soldier of the army's Jat Regiment that some traffic constables were taking bribes from truck drivers.Acting on the tip,she along with her gunman and driver reached the spot in a private vehicle and caught them red-handed.The three traffic constables recognised her and tried to flee the spot but Saxena grabbed the neck of the driver.

Goa beaches turn black after Mumbai oil spill

Panaji, September 2 (ANI): The recent oil spill off western Mumbai coast has begun to blacken the beaches of tourist hotspot Goa as well. Tar balls have started to accumulate on the golden beaches, casting shadow on the tourist arrivals. Tourism authorities however claim that efforts are on to clean the beaches and there was nothing to panic. The tar balls appear on the beaches during the high tide, though washed away during low tides. The authorities expect the clean up to be complete in the next few weeks.
