Wagah Border, August 15 (ANI): Peace activists from India and Pakistan participated in a candlelight vigil at the Attari Wagah land border at midnight on Thursday. It was for the first time that activists from Pakistan took part in an event that has taking place for the last 14 years. Hind Pak Dosti Manch president Kuldeep Nayyar said that the relations between the two countries will improve only when there is political stability.

Meanwhile, in Lucknow capital Uttar Pradesh, a flag hoisting ceremony was held. In Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi also presided over the Independence Day celebrations.

Dhaka, August 15 (ANI): National Mourning Day marking the 33rd anniversary of the death of Bangladesh's first President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed on Friday. The president, Iajuddin Ahmed, and the chief adviser, Fakhruddin Ahmed, visited Tungipara and offered prayers on his grave. The three services of the Armed Forces gave a guard of honour to Mujib's mortal remains. The military-controlled interim government on Sunday reinstated August 15 as National Mourning Day.

Instead, travel agents are now planning to impose a transaction fee on every ticket sold.
