Building collapse kills nine in Veraval

Gujarat,August 09 (ANI): Nine people were killed when a two-storeyed house collapsed near Veraval city in Gujarat in the early hours on Monday.The incident took place at 3.15 a.m, at Prabhas Patan,also called Somnath Patan, about seven kilometers from Veraval.The National Disaster Response Force,which reached the site within half-an-hour,pulled the victims' bodies out of the debris.Those killed, including six women and three men,belonged to two families. Residents said the incessant rains in the area over the past few days could have weakened the building, which was more than 60 years old.

Kalahandi,August 09 (ANI):Flash floods caused by torrential rains in Kalahandi district of Orissa have thrown life out of gear in the region.The flood have inundated residential and agricultural lands rendering thousands homeless.Meanwhile Orissa's Revenue and Disaster Management minister SN Patra,said that 1crore 29 lakh rupees has been sanctioned to carry-on the relief work.The victims are flocking relief camps managed by the district administration. According to the officials,about 25,000 people and 10 villages have been severely affected by the flash floods.

Mumbai,August 09 (ANI): Government on Monday said legal action has been initiated against owners of the two cargo ships,which collided off Mumbai coast resulting in oil spill endangering the marine life and environment.Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has called for a report from the Shipping Ministry on the incident.The oil spill continued to worsen today as the ship carrying fuel is reported to be sinking and over 300 containers carrying oil have already tumbled into the water.Even as the Navy and the coast guard continued the anti-pollution operations for the third day to neutralise the oil spill,the officials are yet to locate the leakage.

India inks one billion dollar loan deal with Bangladesh

Dhaka, August 08 (ANI): India and Bangladesh signed a one billion US dollars credit line agreement on Saturday in Dhaka, which will be used for development of infrastructure in Bangladesh. The $1 billion credit deal, which was offered during a visit by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to India six months ago, carries 1.75 percent annual interest and would be repayable in 20 years including a five-year grace period.

Following heavy rain over the past two days, the Indrawati River crossed the danger mark on Saturday in the district and submerged all the main roads linking with Bastar district.
