Etawah, July 7 (ANI): In contrast to the middle and poor class families enduring spiraling cost of essential commodities and other food items, quintals of wheat in gunny bags have been lying in the open at Etawah Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh. A major portion of the precious food grain has rotted over the past two months to such an extent that it is not fit for even for consumption by livestock. What has perturbed the commoners is that almost the entire opposition parties led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Left Front observed a nationwide dawn to dusk shutdown against the price hike of petroleum products and spiralling inflation on July 05 whereas nearly a hundred quintals of wheat have been left at the mercy of weather gods at Etawah Railway Station.

Gun battle between Maoist groups kill four ultras

Jharkhand, July 7 (ANI): Four Maoists were killed in a gun battle between two rebel groups in the vicinity of a jungle in Palamu region of Jharkhand on Tuesday. According to the top brass of the district police, the firing took place between ultras of Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC) and a newly formed rebel group headed by Pramod Yadav, former associate of TPC. After recovering the bodies, the police sent them to the Sadar Hospital for post-mortem.

No Army for Naxal ops, IAF to aid security forces: Govt

Raipur, July 07 (ANI): The Central government on Tuesday said that Army will not be deployed to fight the Naxals, but Air Force will be used to provide non-combat assistance to para-military and police personnel operating in the Maoist-hit regions. Pillai stated that funds have been allotted to raise seven India Reserve (IR) battalions of which six have been commissioned. Pillai was in Chhattisgarh to review the security and development situation against the backdrop of a spurt in Naxal attacks on security forces in the state.

Germany to enter into security partnership with India

New Delhi, July 7 (ANI): German ambassador to India Thomas Matussek in New Delhi on Tuesday said that European Aeronautic Defence and Space (EADS) of Germany has initiated a deal with Indian Air Force (IAF) for providing 126 Multi Role Combat Aircraft (MRCA) worth over 10 billion dollars. He also mentioned that this deal not only heralds Germany entering into a security partnership with India on commercial note but also from a joint security exercise. Meanwhile, the CEO of EADS said that they had a successful meeting with the IAF and he is hopeful of encouraging response from the Indian Defence Ministry within a few weeks.

Police arrest suspicious Maoist arms suppliers in Jharkhand

Jharkhand, July 07 (ANI): Jharkhand Police on Tuesday arrested nine people in Jamshedpur who were suspicious of supplying arms to Naxals in Bihar and Jharkhand. The police seized 13 pistols (7.65mm), a 9mm revolver, 443 cartridges, Indian Small Arms System (INSAS) .315 and about 200,000 rupees. They also recovered nine mobile phones. The arrested persons have been identified as Pradeep Kumar Pandey, Baidnatha Mardi, Rohit Karmarkar, Kunal Rajak, Prem Lal, Gangadhar Ojha, Lal Babu, Maneek Chand, Sidhu Mahto.

Justice V K Shali, who held one-on-one discussion with Fernandes who is suffering from Alzheimer's disease, refused to interfere with the present arrangement in which he is under the care of his wife at her residence.
