Separatists call shutdown on PM visit to Kashmir

Srinagar, October 10 (ANI): Separatist leaders on Thursday called for a shutdown in Kashmir on Saturday as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visits the troubled region. During his two day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Singh will inaugurate the controversial Baglihar power project and flag off the first train in Kashmir valley. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said Kashmir dispute cannot be resolved by talks between India and Pakistan alone. Singh and Asif Ali Zardari have decided to resume their strained peace process.

Investors doubted a meeting of the Group of Seven rich nations later on Friday could achieve much. Japan's Nikkei share average plunged nearly 12 per cent at one stage and was down 23 per cent for the week -- about twice what it suffered in the week of the 1987 crash.

Private sector bank welcomes RBI moves

Mumbai/New Delhi, October 11 (ANI): India's top private sector banker on Friday welcomed the central bank's measures to ease credit squeeze. The Reserve Bank of India cut the cash reserve ratio by 1.5 percentage points to 7.5 percent. This move by the RBI would free up around 600 billion Indian rupees in funds. Earlier finance minister P Chidambaram had said that the authorities would take further steps to provide more funds to the banking sector.

The senior Bachchan was then shifted to the Lilavati Hospital after a preliminary medical check up.
