MP Forest officials train first dog squad to curb poaching

Bhopal, June 10 (ANI): Forest officials of Madhya Pradesh in collaboration with Wildlife Trade Monitoring Network are training five sniffer dogs in Bhopal to track down poachers. The initiative has been taken for the first time in the country in view of declining tiger population. The dogs are of German shepherd breed, also known as Alsatian. They are being trained for smell and search hides and bones of animals particularly tigers. The dogs have completed seven months of training at Dog Training Academy of Madhya Pradesh Special Armed Force (SAF) 23rd Battalion. The training will end this year in July.

Increasing exports augur well for textile sector, despite global meltdown

New Delhi, June 10 (ANI): While releasing annual report of his ministry, India's textile minister Dayanidhi Maran in New Delhi on Wednesday said that Indian exports had registered an increase amid the global economic meltdown. Maran mentioned that the share of textile and clothing exports increased from 11.03 to 12.36 percent over the past one year. Propelled by this unprecedented growth, the ministry has now directed exporters to adopt a 'Look East' policy, by expanding market base in Japan, Australia, South Africa and other Latin American and South Asian nations, the report has observed. Besides this, the ministry also updated its technological know-how, with the application of 'e-marketing' and latest machinery to boost textile production and distribution, he noted.

India, Sri Lanka sign seven pacts to boost cooperation

New Delhi, June 10 (ANI): India inked seven MoU's (Memoranda of Understanding) with Sri Lanka on a spectrum of bilateral issues in New Delhi on Wednesday. The two sides signed the pacts in the presence of the Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh and the Sri Lankan president, Mahinda Rajapaksa. Prior to signing the MoU's, Singh held intense delegation level talks with Rajapaksa in which several common concerns were discussed. Some of the key issues that were raised in the meeting pertained to security, terrorism, development, economic cooperation, culture, and energy resources. The plight of Sri Lankan Tamils was also discussed.

Police recovered over 400 kilograms of explosives in WB

Malda, June 10 (ANI): Police in West Bengal recovered at least 17 bags filled with explosive powder, each weighing around 25 kilograms, on Thursday. The Malda and Murshidabad police seized the explosives jointly in the early hours of the Thursday in Chowringee of Malda district. The explosives comprised of Potassium nitrate, Sulphur dioxide, Iron powder and Sora capable of causing huge damage. Deputy Superintendent of Malda police, Avijit Basu, said that further raids are being conducted but did not disclose any details to the media.
