The 30-share BSE index provisionally closed down 900 points at 16,677, with 26 of its components falling. The broader 50-issue NSE index provisionally lost 5.35 percent to 4,944.05. It was mainly due to the growing fears of a recession in the United States that took a toll on the share markets.

Six die as tourist bus falls into a steep gorge

Bhatta Fall, May 24 (ANI): At least six people are reported to have died when their bus fell into a deep gorge in Uttarkhand. Thirty-five persons were injured in the incident. The bus was headed towards the tourist resort of Mussorie when it went out of control and fell into a gorge. Senior Superintendent of Police of Dehra Dun Amit Sinha said that they are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the bus falling into the gorge.

Blast hits a passenger bus in Sri Lanka

Colombo, Feb 23(ANI): A suspected Tamil Tiger bomb blast destroyed a passenger bus on the southern outskirts of the Sri Lankan capital Colombo on February 23. However there are no immediate reports of any fatalities. Hospital officials where the injured were admitted said that eighteen people had reached there following the blast. The explosion occurred at a bus stand in the town of Mount Lavinia, just south of Colombo.
