Assam arms forest officials to counter poaching

Guwahati, May 22(ANI): Forest officials in Assam have been given arms and ammunition to counter poaching in the state. As part of the first initiative to strengthen the forest department, the forest officials have been given 7.5 mm revolver and 303 Rifles. Hussain also added forest officials would be given training in forest schools. The government also provided 5 motorbikes to the officials and promised that more such upgradation will take place in the forest department. The state’s forest minister further warned that no one, including the forest officials, would be spared if found involved in poaching or felling of trees.

Air India plane crashes in Mangalore, 160 feared to be dead

Mangalore, May 22 (ANI): At least 160 people are feared dead after an Air India Express aircraft from Dubai, carrying 173 passengers, overshot the runway while landing at the Mangalore airport in Karnataka on Saturday morning. There may have been five or six survivors, local media said. Air India said the plane was a Boeing 737-800, with 166 people on board, including six crew members.
