Maoists blow up road in Orissa’s Koraput district

Orissa, April 30(ANI): Maoists blew up a road near Laxmipur in Koraput district of Orissa on Thursday. The ultras used landmines to cause extensive damage to the main road as a mark of their protest against the Operation Green Hunt, conducted jointly by the central para-military forces and the state police in the state. Though no casualty was reported, the explosion created a crater measuring over five feet on the road, disrupting vehicular traffic.

Kolkata police gets prepared to tackle untoward incident

Kolkata, April 30 (ANI): Kolkata Police is increasing the strength of its Disaster Management Group (DMG) to 120 personnel and is undergoing training in rescue of hostages and fire victims trapped in high-rise buildings. The present 85-member squad has personnel from the police, the Rapid Action Force and the Special Action Force of the Kolkata Police. Personnel are now being trained to rescue people trapped in fires or evacuating hostages during militant attacks on buildings. They already have training in diving and water rescue operations and clearing fallen trees off roads in case of storms or cyclones to prevent traffic disruptions.

One killed in stone pelting incident in Srinagar

Srinagar, April 30 (ANI): A civilian was killed in a stone-pelting incident in Batamaloo in Srinagar on Friday. According to inputs, the victim identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Sheikh of Natipora was wounded when the stone pelters attacked the bus in which he was traveling. Sheikh, was rushed to the hospital were he succumbed to his injuries. Police said that the stone pelters were the supporters of Separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who is at present under house arrest. The police have registered a case and the investigation is on.

India, Japan set up JWG on civil-nuclear cooperation

Maoist killed during an encounter in Jharkhand

Latehar, April 29(ANI): The body of a Maoist was found by the police near Ladi village under Barwadi Police Station of Latehar district in Jharkhand on Wednesday. Reportedly he died during an encounter with the police on Tuesday. The gunfight between the security personnel and the Maoists took place at around 9.30 at night at Ladi village where Maoist cadres had attacked a patrolling team of the police. At this the security forces retaliated and forced the Maoists to flee the spot. Police also recovered a loaded rifle near the dead body of the Maoist.

Reportedly, on April 9, Deepak Jain, the scrap-dealer had bought a consignment containing a piece of the radioactive material and when his employees handled a bright piece of shining metal from the scrap heap, they suffered burn injuries while Jain himself experienced hair fall and the skin turning black.

New Delhi, April 29 (ANI): Indian diplomat Madhuri Gupta, arrested on charges of spying for Pakistan's spy agency ISI, had visited the Sunderbani border area in Jammu and Kashmir last month and stayed with a doctor couple, intelligence sources said. The 53-year-old Madhuri visited the doctor couple several times in Rajouri. The couple also visited Pakistan many times. An army officer, who used to visit the couple, has also come under the scanner. Officials said they do not have exact information on the kind of relationship the diplomat had with the doctor couple.
