Binayak Sen found guilty of treason

Raipur, December 24 (ANI): Human Right activist Dr.Binayak Sen has been found guilty of sedition by Raipur Sessions Court and has been sentenced to life term. Dr. Sen who has vehemently opposed Salwa Judum, was accused of being a conduit for the Naxals before he was arrested for carrying letters from Maoist ideologue Narayan Sanyal, who was in prison, to Naxals and their supporters. Narayan Sanyal and Kolkata businessman Piyush Guha have also been booked under similar charges.

Maoist rebels kill 11 policemen in Orissa

Koraput, April 13 (ANI): Maoist rebels have killed 11 policemen in eastern India and shut down a mine operated by state-run National Aluminum Co Ltd (NALCO) as they stepped up attacks ahead of the general elections. Police said at least 200 rebels attacked NALCO bauxite mine guarded by police in the mineral-rich state of Orissa late on Sunday. Four Maoists were also killed during a heavy exchange of fire between the rebels and police.

Rajasthan, June 04 (ANI): Central government's latest project National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) that ensures better QLI (Quality of Life Index) among the rural families residing in isolated and remote areas was launched on Friday. UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi formally inaugurated the NRLM at one of the villages in Banswara district of Rajasthan. Classifying the mission as a significant step forward for the upgradation of the poor in the country, particularly the women, Mrs. Gandhi said the mission would bear fruit only if it is well implemented. Stressing on the significance of the new scheme, the UPA president said it would help rural women in becoming the bread earner of their families.

Jharkhand, August 29 (ANI): Seven members of a pro-Maoist group were nabbed from a forest hideout in Latehar district of Jharkhand, officials said on Saturday. Acting on a tip-off, a team of local police raided a hiding place in the nearby woodland and apprehended seven activists of the Swatantra Indian Prastuti Committee. Weapons and ultra-left wing pamphlets were seized from the spot.
