Centre to strip SPS Rathore’s commendation medals

New Delhi, January 05 (ANI): The ministry of home affairs on Monday announced that Shambhu Pratap Singh Rathore, former Director General of Police (DGP) of Haryana, would be stripped of his police medal for meritorious service. The stripping of Rathore's honours comes as a shot in the arm for the justice of Ruchika campaign. The decision was taken at a meeting of the home ministry's medals committee headed by Home Secretary G.K. Pillai. The recommendation report of the committee will now be sent to President Pratibha Patil for approval. Rathore was awarded the President's medal for meritorious service on the Independence Day in 1985.

Kashmir's security forces get new protective gear

Srinagar, August 15 (ANI): To offer greater protection to security officials in strife torn Kashmir and shield them from stone-pelting mobs, they have now been equipped with new head-to-toe protective gear. The robot-type riot gear shields all vital organs of the body, and consists of abdomen guard over trousers, thick foam-stuffed shin guards, arm-guards, helmet and a torso guard that covers the shoulders. The officials hope that the equipment introduced by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) would decrease the number of casualties during the unrest. Scores of CRPF personnel have sustained grave injuries in violent protests, mainly in the head and legs, and more than 40 vehicles have also been damaged in the recent turmoil in the valley.

Reko Diq, a small desert town in Chagai district of Balochistan has gold and copper reserves worth 260 billion USD. Some 12.3m tons of copper and 20.9m ounces of gold lie in the Reko Diq area. The exploration work has been carried out by Tethyan Commper Company (Pvt.) Limited (TCC) – a Canadian consortium. Now, TCC wants to take the raw material abroad for refining. This will benefit the company and lead to a massive loss for Balochistan.

More than 25 people die in a bus accident in MP
