Tsunami damages northern Japan, 10 nations on alert

Japan, March 11 (ANI): The biggest earthquake to hit Japan in 140 years struck the northeast coast on Friday, triggering a 10-meter tsunami that swept away everything in its path, including houses, cars and farm buildings. Already facing political furore, embattled Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan has urged his countrymen to help each other in a bid to minimise the damage nature has inflicted upon the country. Addressing the nation on TV, he announced the set up of an emergency response headquarters in a bid to deal with the alarming situation in the country. Ten nations have been issued tsunami-related alerts. Warnings have also been issued along the Pacific coast.

Radhika Tanwar's killing: DU shut, students' protest continues

New Delhi, March 11 (ANI): Delhi University was shutdown on Friday after the student wing of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) protested the daylight murder of Radhika Tanwar outside her college. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) asked students of all the affiliated colleges of the university in New Delhi to participate in the strike, seeking justice for 20-year-old Radhika. Slogan-shouting students threatened to continue the stir until Tanwar's killer was arrested and she got justice. Angry students demanded better security measures around the colleges, while many others called for the resignation of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

These include poor roads, lack of water supply, medical services and education facilities. The villagers said politicians come during every election and promise reforms, but do nothing. The problem of unemployment looms large over them, and many find it hard to sustain themselves. The state of West Bengal is set to go on polls next month for the elections to the State Assembly.

Chennai, March 11 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday questioned Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's wife Dayalu Ammal and daughter Kanimozhi in connection with the 2G spectrum scam. They are being quizzed about the Rs 214 crore which Kalaingar TV - majority-owned by Karunanidhi family - received from Mumbai-based Cineyug Films in 2008. CBI sleuths had arrived in the city, today morning, with the intention to only quiz DMK MP Kanimozhi but, as per reports, Dayalu Ammal herself volunteered to face questions as she hold 60 percent stake in the channel.
